Bingley Town Council run a grant scheme to support local community organisations. The Micklethwaite Village Society applied to the grant scheme in October 2016 for a grant of £1000 towards the cost of a defibrillator for the village. Bingley Town Council issued the grant in line with the scheme.
The Defibrillator was installed on 31 May 2017 in a freshly painted disused phone box on High Fold in Micklethwaite.
An initial cardiac arrest training and awareness session presented by Community Heartbeat Trust was held on 7th of June 2017. The seminar was open to all the village community and had about 40 attendees. Those who attended felt the training was interesting, straightforward and reassuring. It focused on how to give CPR and how to operate the defibrillator. After the meeting 12 people volunteered to be ‘responders’ and they will attend a further training session in October.
To date there has been no call for the defibrillator to be used. But both Micklethwaite Village Society and Bingley Town Council hope the community benefits from it for many years to come. Micklethwaite Village Society have received much positive feedback including this comment from Pat Findlay – Resident of Micklethwaite ‘As a retired G.P. I know the enormous benefits of  providing  a fast response in the event of cardiac arrest .The introduction of a defibrillator into our phone box in Miclklethwaite along with the C.P.R training for a number of our community is an enormous step forward. Well done Micklethwaite Village Society and Bingley Town Council for making it happen.’Â
