Following the devastation of the 2015 Boxing Day Floods, the relationship between residents, volunteers from Bingley Flood Support Group, Bingley Town Council and Bradford Council has gone from strength to strength.

Councillor Michelle Chapman has been working with Chris Slaven from the Emergency Planning Department of Bradford Council to create an Emergency Plan.  This supports the response to any emergency that may hit the town, not just flooding.

The document incorporates points of contacts, operational guidelines and much more. Now, if an emergency occurred, mobilising support and recovery would be more structured. Whilst this document cannot stop an emergency happening, it should result in a quick response.

We now have secure bases to use as operational centres in an emergency and Bingley Fire Station is 100% behind the plan, offering full access and use of their facilities. An emergency box will be located at the Fire Station containing items needed when mobilising large-scale emergency responses.

Councillor Michelle Chapman gave a lively and interesting talk on the work of Bingley Flood Relief Group in the Boxing Day Floods of 2015 and its aftermath to a rapt audience of Bingley 5 Rise Frocks Women’s Institute members. Afterwards, Bingley 5 Rise Frocks presented Councillor Chapman with a cheque for £167.65 which was raised from their Craft Stall at the Bingley Canal Festival.
