Dear Residents,

This is my first newsletter as Chair of Bingley Town Council.  It is an honour to have been elected to this position and I hope to build on the good work achieved by Councillor Owen.  Councillor Owen was elected as Chair in October 2019 and lead the Council through unprecedented times as a result of the Covid pandemic.   Her dedication to the work of the Council has been widely recognised and her contribution will be greatly missed.  On behalf of councillors, staff and the residents of the Bingley Parish, I would like to thank Helen for all her work and wish her well for the future.

The departure of Councillor Owen does mean that we now have a councillor vacancy.  We await news from Bradford Metropolitan District Council as to whether an election will be called or whether candidates will need to be invited for co-option.  Further information will be posted on our website in due course.

The Council continues to work to support and enhance the lives of Bingley Parish residents.  Work is progressing with the Changing Places toilet project, funds have been granted to a local community group, councillors have supported local flood emergency situations and although the monthly Farmers’ Market had to be cancelled last month due to adverse weather conditions we are planning to be back in March.

Particular thanks are given this month to those councillors and members of the public who turned out in dreadful weather to do what they could to deal with the various issues in the parish caused by the poor weather.

I hope that spring will bring better weather and I look forward to serving you as Chair of Bingley Town Council in the coming months.

Regards,

Councillor Steve Williams

Chair

Changing Places

The Changing Places project is progressing well, and, with the order put in with the contractors last week, the facility will begin the build phase very soon.

The Council has been committed to providing this much needed facility in Bingley for several years, with reserves being built up and donations gratefully received. The capital cost of the Changing Places facility is £69,595, and the cost for the cleaning the Town Council offices, Hub toilets and new Changing Places facility will be £19,329 per year (all toilets will be cleaned twice per day).

The Town Council are delighted to be soon providing this service to the residents of Bingley, and would like to thank the Changing Places Working Group for all their hard work on this project.

CIL funding awards

Bingley Town Council is pleased to announce that a local sporting group was awarded a Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funded grant to improve its grounds.

CIL is a charge which can be levied by local authorities on new development in their area, and is an important tool for local authorities to use to help them deliver the infrastructure needed to support development in their area. If any other local groups feel they have a project that would benefit from CIL funding, please look at the CIL funding criteria on the Council’s website or contact the Town Clerk.

Emergency Support Sub Committee

Flooded Ruby Club Grounds

Severe weather conditions in February resulted in a call out of the Council’s Emergency Support Committee.  Thanks are give to all councillors and members of the public who assisted and dealt with issues that arose due to the bad weather.  Particular thanks are given to Councillor John Goode for his work on the night of the storms.   Several areas in Bingley were flooded but fortunately residential properties appeared to have been spared flood damage.
