Background

Bingley Town Council is a proactive and forward-looking local council in West Yorkshire. It was formed in 2016 and covers the areas of Bingley, Crossflatts, Micklethwaite, Eldwick, Gilstead and Cottingley. The team currently consists of a Town Clerk, a part-time Administrative Officer and 16 unpaid Councillors. We are looking for a self-starter who is comfortable working in a changing and developing environment. The person appointed will need to be flexible in their approach in what is likely to be an emerging role.

Outline of the role

The Environmental Warden will be responsible to the Town Clerk and will work to maintain the local environment to a high standard, working independently and alongside Bradford Council staff and wardens.

The Warden will undertake a range of practical environmental or cleansing duties, such as litter picking, clearing snickets, maintaining hedges and leaf-sweeping. The post-holder will also be responsible for a number of related Council monitoring and management tasks, e.g. relating to grit bins, floral displays and noticeboards and will assist the Administrative Officer with the Council’s allotments. There will also be a need to assist with events from time to time, such as markets. The job will be varied, with no two days being the same.

The successful applicant will have good practical skills and good communication skills as they will be interacting with members of the public, Councillors and other organisations in both verbal and written formats. The Environmental Warden needs to be organised, flexible and able to show initiative when required. Training will be provided as necessary.
