Bingley Town Council Serving the people of Bingley

Green and Clean

It is our aim to make Bingley Parish a green and clean place to live and enjoy. One of the ways we do this is conducting and encouraging as many community litter picks as possible, along with the help of our Green and Clean Champions and local community groups who independently organise their own litter picks around the Parish.

Biodiversity

Biodiversity is the collective term for the variety and abundance of forms of life found in an area, including animals, plants, fungi and microorganisms like bacteria. Each of these species and organisms work together in ecosystems to maintain, balance and support life. Biodiversity supports everything in nature that we need to survive including, food, oxygen, clean air and clean water.

Bingley Town Council formally adopted a Biodiversity Policy on 9th January 2024 in response to the strengthened 'biodiversity duty' placed on local authorities introduced by the Environment Act 2021, which means that Bingley Town Council will take biodiversity into account in all its decisions and actions.

Community Litter Picks

Litter Pick Volunteers

Litter Pick Volunteers

Residents are notified of upcoming litter picks via a mailing list and social media. The more people we have to help, the more of a change we can make. People of all ages and abilities are welcome. Equipment is provided and there is always at least one councillor on site to ensure all health and safety requirements are met.

Green and Clean Champions

Green and Clean Champions have the freedom to do as much or little as their time allows. Bingley Town Council provide the equipment, and you can decide where you would like to focus on or come along and join one of our Community Litter Picks.

Do you want to be a Green and Clean Champion? Download this form and email it to us at enquiries@bingleytowncouncil.gov.uk

Once your application has been received, we will be in touch to provide you with all equipment you need.

Plants

Plants provided to Cottingley Gardening Group

We commission professional contractors to supply, install and water the many pole baskets, barrier planters, tubs and tiered planters you may see located around the Parish. Thousands of plants are also provided to a large number of voluntary groups who use them to create their own floral displays in their local area.

These investments from the Town Council create several benefits:

  • Groups working together which is a benefit to both physical and mental health
  • Residents enjoying and taking pride in their local area

Forums

Green and Clean Forum

Green and Clean Forum

We regularly organise forums where local groups and like-minded people can come together to discuss how to make improvements in the area. At a Green and Clean Forum, a speaker is invited to give a presentation on a topic around environmental matters and it is always an educational experience. There are also Community Group Networking Events for local groups to share ideas to make improvements and find volunteers.
