Update from the Shipley Area Office

On your patch in Shipley

It is the intention that by Monday 15th June, 2 metre social distancing signage and markings will be in place in all main shopping areas in the district.

Youth Service

Shipley and West worked collaboratively with their Young Ambassadors to pilot a Cook and Eat session over Zoom. They made chicken stir fry together. Youth workers provided all of the ingredients for the recipe which were bagged up separately and delivered to the young people via a garden gate visit.

We had loads of fun cooking together and learning a new skill over Zoom. The Young Ambassadors from two different localities also had the chance to meet and integrate during this time. It was really successful and enjoyed by all. We plan on doing our next one in a couple of weeks.

Bingley

Bingley Covid response group report that overall calls for support and general referrals seem to be decreasing. Concerns are still focussed around holiday hunger and the Community Café based at Trinity All Saints School have said they will be supporting all schools and families during the summer break. The Ward Councillors have donated an additional £500 in support of the café to ensure they have enough supplies during summer.

Bingley Town Council have reported that the flower tubs and planters are out in Bingley and it is hoped that from 1st August the monthly market will be up and running.

Bingley Rural

Denholme, Cullingworth, Wilsden, Cottingley and Harden Neighbourhood Support Centres continue support the local residents. Their focus remains on co-ordinating the volunteers who provide an invaluable service which includes shopping, befriending, provision of advice and information, and supply of food when necessary.

Following recent anti-social behaviour at Goit Stock in Harden, Bingley Rural Ward councillor, Paul Sullivan is organising a Community Clean-Up this Saturday, 13th June, from 2pm to 4pm.

The Neighbourhood Service is supporting this by supplying litter-picking and health & safety equipment and collecting the bags of rubbish afterwards.

Shipley

Shipley Area Office received several complaints, during the recent spell of warm weather, regarding dangerous bbqs, camp fires and an increase in litter.  As a consequence signs have been produced for local hotspots such as Northcliffe Park and Woods.  These have been well received within the community and have led to requests from other areas.  We are working in partnership with the Fire Service and will continue to monitor the situation especially during the sunnier weather.
