An Easter Market Extravaganza is to take place in Bingley on Good Friday and Easter Saturday – and all are welcome!

The market will see regular traders joined by a variety of other stalls including food and drink offerings.  There will also be an Easter Egg hunt around the town, entertainment for children, including free donkey rides on the Saturday, and special appearances by the Bingley Bear.

The event is organised by Bingley Chamber of Trade and Commerce, supported by Bingley Town Council.

Jamie Illingworth, President of Bingley Chamber, said: “This will be a fun, family event and we’re hoping to create a real buzz in the town.  We are delighted to be closely supported by the Town Council on this and hope that everyone will come and enjoy what’s on offer.”

Bingley Town Councillors Michelle Chapman, John Goode and Mark Truelove have been spearheading the council’s input into the event.

Cllr Chapman said: “We’re pulling out the stops to make this event a great success.  The council is prioritising regeneration and supporting this event is a way to encourage our community and visitors into the town centre.”

The Easter Market Extravaganza is from 10.30am to 3.30pm on both days.

Bingley Chamber of Trade and Commerce also organises the annual and highly popular Christmas Market and Lights Switch-On, which was boosted in 2016 by new lights funded by the Town Council.   There are also plans for a summer event in the market square.  The Chamber, one of Bingley’s most long-established organisations, is currently recruiting new members as part of its efforts to increase trade in the town.

Bingley Town Council is keen to work with organisations to enhance the local economy and environment.  It will shortly be holding a consultation on ways forward to support and sustain the town’s market which dates from the Middle Ages and was granted a charter by King John in 1214.
