Vote on Bingley’s new Christmas lights.
Residents in Bingley are being asked to vote on which new Christmas lights they want on five lamp posts along the Main Street.
The new festive decorations are part of a nearly £7,000 investment by Bingley Town Council which also includes illuminating a further 9 trees with sparkling white bulbs around the market square and Arts Centre. In total 14 trees will be lit up, as well as the Christmas Tree provided by Bradford Council.
Cllr Mark Truelove, who is spearheading the project along with Cllrs Michelle Chapman and John Goode, said: “New and better lights are the number one issue that residents tell us they want. So, the Town Council is using its funds to help grant this Christmas wish.
“We want to improve the display along the main street so would like residents to tell us which of five possible column feature designs they’d like to see on the lamp posts. Hopefully, there’ll be a clear preference.
“The new column features will complement the lights on the trees around the market square and make Bingley more attractive. Last year, we managed to illuminate five trees so this year people should see a big difference. This is just that start and we aim to build steadily on our town’s festive decorations year on year.”
Cllr Ros Dawson, Chair of Bingley Town Council, said: “As well as bringing pleasure at Christmas and brightening the winter months, hopefully the lights will encourage more people into Bingley to shop and enjoy its amenities. The Town Council actively supports initiatives and strategies to boost our town’s profile and make it an even better place to live and work. ”
The new column features will hang on five lamp posts near to the market square. The choices are: green and silver trees, stars, baubles, angel wings and sherbet fountains. To register a vote, residents are encouraged to either:
– Email their preference, along with their postal address, to email@example.com
– Comment on the pinned post on the Town Council’s Facebook page @bingleytowncouncil
– Take part in a survey carried out by councillors in Bingley town centre on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th
The deadline for votes is Friday, September 15th.
The lights will be switched on at The Christmas Fayre at 4.30pm on Saturday, November 25th. The Fayre, organised by Bingley Chamber of Trade and Commerce, is also being supported by £2,000 from the Town Council as well hands-on organisational help from councillors.
Jamie Illingworth, President of Bingley Chamber of Trade and Commerce, said: “With the help from Bingley Town Council this year’s switch on event is shaping up to be bigger and better than usual, a great day out for all the family.”
The Fayre will include a free visit for children to Santa in his grotto, free donkey rides and fairground rides plus Christmas-themed stalls with quality street food on the market square and more stalls inside Bingley Arts Centre.
